ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
ACLS is a nationally recognized continuing education program developed by the American Heart Association. The course is designed to provide the most recent information on Emergency Cardiac Care and to reinforce previously learned knowledge and skills. It is intended for physicians, nurses, paramedics, and other healthcare professionals who provide Emergency Cardiac Care.
The following topics will be addressed, some in small groups using a case-based learning format: Basic & Advanced Airway Management, Defibrillation & Cardioversion, Transcutaneous Pacing/AED, Arrhythmia Recognition & Management, Algorithm Approach to Cardiac Care, Cardiovascular Pharmacology, and Myocardial Infarction/Stroke.
Are There Any Pre-Requisites? Individuals registering for ACLS should have a current Healthcare CPR card. In addition, they should have a basic knowledge of cardiac pharmacology and EKG interpretation.
What Credentials Will I Receive? Upon successful completion of the ACLS course, each participant will be issued an American Heart Association E-card verifying that they have successfully completed an approved ACLS course. The recognition period is for two years, after which the participant may elect to participate in either an abbreviated renewal course or a full provider course.
Course Material: This one-day course includes course materials and refreshments. Students will also be issued an ACLS textbook prior to the course.
Curriculum: Course Overview, Airway Management, Review of core cases, V-Fib / V-Tach, Bradycardia/PEA/Asystole, Tachycardia, Acute MI/Stroke, Pulmonary Edema/Shock/Hypothermia/Drowning, Skill Stations, and Written Test.
Offered the third Friday of every month.
