Drive-through Free Flu Vaccine Clinic and Food Drive

Posted: Wednesday, September 5, 2018

The DeKalb County Health Department, supported by DeKalb Health and DeKalb County Central United School District, is hosting a Drive-through Free Flu Vaccine Clinic and Food Drive on Tuesday, October 16th, 10 am – 2 pm at the DeKalb High School parking lot. The vaccine available will be for adults ONLY, 18 years of age and older. Please see information below regarding free flu vaccine for DeKalb County school-aged children and their families. Participants will drive through a series of stations, receive their flu vaccine in the arm (remember to wear short sleeves) and drive away. For those interested, free will donations of dried foods and canned goods will be collected for the Community Care Food Pantry at the Garrett United Methodist Church.

For those who are unfamiliar with the POD (Point of Distribution) site being used for this clinic, it is a layout that could be utilized if we had an emergency situation in the county. It would be used to distribute medications, supplies, etc. Our goal is to have as many people as possible come through our POD for their flu shot. Familiarity with the set up will only make our county more prepared for an actual emergency.

The Health Department and Homeland Security will work together during the clinic to roll out all of our preparedness equipment. The drive-through clinic will allow us to make sure everything is in good working order. Our staff and volunteers will have an opportunity to practice preparedness for the day. Feel free to contact the Health Department at 260-925-2220 if you have any questions. Hope to see you there!

The Health Department is also hosting free flu ONLY vaccine clinics for DeKalb County school-aged children and their families on Tuesday, October 9th, Thursday, October 18th, and Wednesday, October 24th, 3 pm – 6 pm. The vaccine will be administered to walk-ins (no appointments taken), on a first come, first served basis until the vaccine is gone. Additionally, on Tuesday, October 30th, 9:30 am – 11 am walk-ins may come for just the flu vaccine. In the afternoon on October 30th, appointments ONLY will be taken 1 pm – 3:30 pm for the free flu vaccine.
